Birka is an ancient Viking settlement, inhabited from the late 700s to the late 900s, located on the Björkö island in Lake Mälaren. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
We went with a tour group which left from a dock near City Hall in Stockholm.
Pehr was our tour guide. We listened to the history while gathered atop the ancient burial mounds.
The Angsar Cross, erected in 1834, stands at the crest of Borgberg on Björkö. The view was amazing!
An ancient Viking village was reconstructed on the island.
